Gotta love that this has over 10 million views. WTF. I hear things are getting real in the northeast with a big storm brewing. Glad I’m not there – would totally ruin my Felix Baumgartner costume. DOING IT.
• Tegan And Sara – I’m Not Your Hero – Yes – this is awesome. Put it on full blast and let your hair down. Arcade Fire goes 1985. Huge fan of this jam!
Big Mumford & Sons show coming to Maine this weekend. Thought I would give out some props by showing the 2012 video of the greatest concert I’ve never been to. God this looks awesome. Get fired up!
• Ghost Beach – Been There Before - Ghost Beach, the genius behind “Miracle” and other tracks, slams me again with this awesome track. It’s angry and happy at the same time. It’s the PERFECT Saturday afternoon/rooftop slamming cocktails jam. Might have to buy this entire album.
• Snoop Lion – La La La – Born again rapper Snoop Lion worked with Major Lazer on his latest trip down to the Caribbean and comes back with a gospel of reggae. Seems that Snoop started smothing something a little harder than the chronic he’s used to. Whatever – he’s still awesome.
• Air Traffic Controller – You Know Me – This is one of those songs that has a straight beat, basic instruments, and reverb wrapped around the entire thing. It sounds 3D – like Arcade Fire using major chords. Something celebratory about this song – just not sure what it is exactly. Great tune.
• Zac Brown Band – The Wind – Fast and pretty cheesy, ZBB somehow manages to deliver a “stuck in my head” country song that mandates a volume increase while in the car. I’m not sure why it happens or how it happens, but it happens every time. I think good times are just burned into our DNA – YOUR SOUL WANTS TO HAVE FUN….LISTEN TO IT.
• The String Cheese Incident – It Is What It Is – I was on a run the other day and this came on my iPod. Instantly, I was teleported to the summer of 2011 with two of the greatest humans alive in a deep valley in Colorado, casting flies and landing fish. It was the most beautiful place I had been in years, surrounded by an energy that was almost blinding to every sense I had – a purity that was rich with life, untapped, and ours to enjoy. After a long day in the river, we piled into the F-150 and this song came on. I turned to my buddy and said “You know, this is all right.”
Yeah I know this is kind of touchy feely but it’s awesome, so deal with it. Could not be more fired up about this kind of stuff. Hope you all are pumped about 2012 – this is going to be the best year of your lives. HELL YEAH
• Adventure Gallery – Addict – Great jam to kick this off – almost a feel good version of Arcade Fire, with a little bit of Cake mixed in. Arcade Cake? Twinkies.
• Scissor Sisters – Shady Love – Handed to me on a sweet mix, Scissor Sisters bring it back from their 2011 days and drop the hammer on this jam.
• Grimes – Genesis – One of the hottest jams on the web right now, Grimes takes this beat and put its in the stratosphere. Electronic ambience.
• Bruce Hornsby – The Show Goes On – First snowy day of the new year and I had to put on Bruce. Easily my top 3 favorite artist of all time – so feel good. God bless America.
How about this new beta version of TGIFjams?? Netflix, founded by a Bowdoin grad, loved the idea and got their team to whip up something that could deliver streaming music. So sweet.
• Matt & Kim – Cameras - It seems like I can’t get through a blog without seeing this one featured. Real smooth.
• Samantha Murphy – Ring of Fire – This independent artist is making it happen on the next Amazon Kindle commercial. Happy to support the little guy, took me forever to find a free download of this though. Wahh wahh.
• Neil Young – On the Beach - This goes out to the guys on the beach behind the camera man asleep from the oxycontin they just took.
Yeah! I entered an online contest for a Public Service Announcement design and WON THAT!! They were looking for something that inspires in a creative way. It is a national chain so they have yet to decide exactly where it’s going but they expect over 200K eyeballs on it. Yahoo! Love the jams.
