Weekend of 07-06-12

They have a few bars like this in Portland – you should see Sangillo’s late night. Renewed love for air conditioning this week – haters gonna hate.
Viceroy – Chase Us Around – I know I give this guy a lot of props but when you make music like this, it’s hard not to. Here’s his latest single – about as feelgoodsummershit you can get.
MIA feat. Missy Elliot & Rye Rye – Bad Girls (Switch Remix) -Yes this is awesome. What a lineup – Rye Rye opened for a Santigold show I show a while back and she was like mixing methamphetamines with raw sex appeal. It was intense. This jam kind of reminds me of a female version of Lil Wayne.
Noosa – Walk On By -This ambient jam came on of blog stream this past week on a lazy, hot summer night. Smooth listening with a touch of somberness to make sure you’re not TOO optimistic about life (high five emo).
Germany Germany – Real Hero (College/Electric Youth Cover) – A sweet cover of that song from the Drive soundtrack that everyone seems to love and somehow I hate. Weird.
Patsy Cline – She’s Got You – Heard this one on my Summer Sunday Songza session and almost had to sit down. The same thing happened when I heard Otis Redding’s "This Heart of Mine." Hard to explain what’s going on with songs like this, but I like it. In a world where time is seemingly the most precious commodity we all have, this song melts it away effortlessly.

Weekend of 10-21-11

Oh man we’ve all been there. Funny how the older generation looks at the young people and says we’re screwed, yet they’re the ones making these kind of comments. Sick hip hop song at the end, though. Lots of fire this week – John Brown’s Body last night & maxing out on entrepreneurship. Saw some great TGIF Jams readers last weekend, glad to see the jams making their way across the country.
The Ting Tings – Hang It Up- Love the Ting Tings – this one has a shred of Joan Jett type power chords. Raw and tasty – like sushi.
Dillon Francis – I.D.G.A.F.O.S.- Fun little electro jam with a side serving of mild dubstep. Reminds me of an amusement park for adults, kind of like the Playboy Mansion with something groovy in the punch. If you can relate to the above video, you’re not going to like this song.
Martin Solvig & Dragonette – Big In Japan – This power couple is back for another Smash, this time bringing it to the far East. These guys are definitely on my 2012 bucket list for live music – my goodness that would be fun.
Wale & Kid Cudi – Focused – Wale and KC team up for a adderall infused, Lil’ Wayne-esque track.
The Cult – American Horse- One of my favorite albums of all time – this 1989 power ballad must have been the inspiration for Budweiser’s advertising.

Weekend of 09-02-11

I saw this video floating around and thought it was pretty great. I’m a big fan of local and organic food – pumped to see Willie making moves on that. Have a great weekend and enjoy the fall air!
Penguin Prison – Don’t F*ck With My Money – Easily top 3 of the year. An incredibly catchy beat, with a title that should be Trump’s next book. In the words of a true legend: “This song will be played full blast on the Pacific Coast Highway en route to Laguna Beach (in a convertible).”
David Guetta feat. Nikki Minaj – Turn Me On – Hot new track from DGuetta. Eerily similar to Britney Spears’ power and borderline illegal for dance impact.
Pusha T – Trouble On My Mind (feat. Tyler, the Creator) – Mmmm love this type of Lil’ Wayne meets Wu-Tang style rap. Just raw and epic. Thanks MS for the hook up on this track.
Robert Earl Keen – I Gotta Go – Hot off his new album, REK delivers yet another porch sittin’, knee slappin’ jam.
O.A.R. – Daylight The Dog - Straight rock and roll for the Labor Day weekend. Enjoy the freedom!

Weekend of 01-28-11

Standup
Straight out of West Hollywood – TGIFjams hits the big stage in front of a 2,500 person crowd. Absolutely epic. No words. Awesome! PS if you want a shirt, you can buy one here (TGIFjams t-shirts) Don’t worry I don’t make any money on these.
Skull Tape – Whip My Hair (Willow Smith Cover) – Willow Smith why are you popular? This cover is way sick.
Lil’ Wayne vs Bassnectar – 6’7’808 – Sweet remix/mashup on Weezy’s latest.
Cutcopy – Need You Now – The National meets The Cure. A National Cure. Maybe TGIFjams is a national cure? No, def not. This is one of my top 5 for the year.
Holy Ghost – Do It Again – An excellent opening-scene-of-a-movie-driving-through-a-city-shades-on-1987-wall-street-ferris-bueller type vibe.
Ray LaMontagne – For The Summer – He said he wrote this song while sitting in a large, open room with morning sunlight pouring through the windows. I believe him.

Weekend of 12-24-10

xmas

Merry Christmas Yo! Get off your computer and go hang out with family, friends, and alcohol!

Lil’ Wayne – Right Above It – Yes thank you for being out of jail this song kills.
Bag Raiders – Sunlight Sweet new jam from an Aussie band.
Broken Bells – October – This a nice little track for the 4pm wake up from that sweet nap you’re going to take today.
Ellie Goulding – Your Song (Dubstep Remix) – Elton John covered in dub. Gross.
Randy Newman – It’s Money That Matters – All I can think about is a huge crowd of people singing this with smiles on their face in the 80s. This is so incredibly feel good, esp as a small businss owner. It’s money that matters in the USA!
