Weekend of 07-13-12

Hard not to love this, although I’m 100% sure I would not share my cookie. Sorry, bro. I have a soft spot in my heart for pop music, so I hope you enjoy this week’s jams. I know some of you are gonna hate on this. Do it.
Owl City – Good Time (feat. Carly Rae Jepson) - When Owl City first came out I actually liked his stuff. Extremely weird but very unique, taking the Snow Patrol sound to a new electronic level. Partnering with CRJ was no small task and, as far as pop goes, these guys nailed it. I would say 30% of a successful pop song revolves around using the words “good” and “times” somewhere in the title or chorus.
Katy Perry – Wide Awake -Katy Perry, however you slice it, is a total rock star. Only female in history to have 5 #1 singles on the SAME album, a blockbuster movie, and everything in between. I have major props for this modern Madonna and am not afraid to put her jams on my list any day of the week. F*uck yeah KP.
Flo Rida – Whistle -Flo Rida, once again, delivers a bomb. Slowing it down to almost a Bubba Sparxxx “Deliverance” level, I don’t know whether to dance or just jam. Who cares.
The Books and Jose Gonzalez – Cello Song (Nick Drake Cover) – Heard this while making dinner the other night and went into the familiar hypnosis of smooth music. An awesome jam – really something you should all check out.
Van Halen – Mean Street – Yes, I love Van Halen. First DVD I ever bought. The power chords and drum beat in this make me want to put live electricity into my veins – I can almost feel the decibels tearing apart my ears in the front row of a live show. GOD it’s hard not to love that kind of power.
