J. Cole – Who Dat
J. Cole represents a side of Friday that may be the opposite of the local jeweler, D. Cole. Both deliver diametric messages – while J questions the very identity of the person right in front of him, D would obviously be the man you talked to when you knew EXACTLY who was in front of you. Both are in the business of sparkle and precision, but I feel like J has a bit more track left in his path, no pun intended. I will say that anyone who uses a DJ Shadow "Organ Donor" rip-off as the background to a hip hop song is really pigeon holding themselves. Is that a rapper wearing a zip-up hoodie? I bet he has an iPad, too.

Widespread Panic – Arleen (live)
WSP reminds me of the summertime, getting lost in the mountains and stumbling upon a valley full of loose hips, loose morals, and dogs that are asleep in the middle of the circle of pass-the-dutch. An anthem that represents the controlled fury of a widespread panic, Arleen’s grace morphs into an electric storm, the way Medusa would present herself at a little league game. That tension that stretches through the song has no resolution, and I think that’s why I want to dance so bad. There is just nowhere for the energy to go! I can’t decide which represents a greater widespread panic – the ocean of dancing when 20,000 people go nuts, or the collective looks on people’s faces when they wake up on Monday morning after Bonnaroo and realize they don’t know where their car/pants/life are.

Ill Mondo – Be Bad (pt. 1)

Man I was just chillin’ and got this thrillin’ email from the boys over at Ill’in. The Mondo are back for round two of their triumphant careers here on the jamz and deliver a perfect party mix. More of an instrumental mashup/sample session, this whopping 12 minute track could just be what you were looking for at the next yacht race you are in and want to show all the old timer’s "what you goddamn kids are listening to these days." The truth of Oaktown presented via hip hop beats and carefully extracted 70’s licks. Totally bangin’ video.DUDE, my sneakers are waaaaaay sicker than yours.

Drake vs Coldplay – The Fly Scientist
Skepticism overtaken by melody. HOW DOES THIS POSSIBLY WORK??
